Once a month my darling girlfriends and I get together for our French Club brunch. It’s always 10:30 to 12:30. My 13 year old daughter Natalie asked me what we do during our brunch. I explained that we ate a lot, shared a wonderful assortment of dishes and sometimes French food while pretending that we could speak French! She said it sounded like a BLAST!! It really is tons of fun and I look forward to it every month and several members actually are from France and speak the language fluently. It’s just the rest of us that struggle to keep up! I’m half French, had 4 years in high school where I actually got A’s in class, but after years of no practice, it’s gone!
My day started with a run with my dogs to feed my horse at 6:00 am. Then I had to pick up my daughter from a sleepover in order to take her to her orthodontist appointment 12 miles away at 8:00. I thought that was a good idea when I made the appointment so that it wouldn’t break up the day. NOT a good idea… That is way to early for a lazy summer morning, but we got a lot done. We had to buy a feeder for the horse stable. Then we had to go to the hardware store to find some kind of adapter to make it fit on a wood slat fence even though it was made to hang on a pipe stall. Mission accomplished. Now I had a whopping 30 minutes to shop and prepare the dish I was to bring to our French club meeting, shower, dress and arrive looking glamourous! I’m so excited with what I came up with while frantically driving back through the mountains that I had to share it.
We ran into the store, grabbed two small containers of Creme Fraiche, one large tub of strawberries, blueberries and blackberries and a dozen croissant. Once home, all I had to do was slice the strawberries, mix all the fruit with a few drops of agave nectar, empty the creme fraiche into a bowl and mix with a couple drops of real organic vanilla and a couple of drops of agave nectar, grab three pretty leaf dishes and I was out the door! It literally took me 5 minutes! I never had time to shower or change and wore what I had on which was a sleek black warmup suit – tres chic!
