Harvesting Lavender

Stitching divides tule that is folded in half. Cut between lines to separate.

I decided my lavender was too tall so before I cut it down about a foot, I decided to harvest the lavender buds.  Some were already dried and some were still fresh.  I started at the bottom end of each stalk and stripped it of its buds, and threw my too handfuls of lavender into a bucket quickly and on to the next few stalks.  I got pretty good and could do 2 or 3 at a time in each hand.  I ended up with a 10 gallon bucket full of buds. Now what?  It just so happened that I had about a yard of tule from who knows where! I folded it in half and sewed straight lines across the width forming pockets.  I had two lines close together so I could cut between them and end up with several pockets. Because of the mesh, the lavender can dry until I decide what I am going to do with it.  I think I will make sachets for my shoes, drawers and closets and use some for cooking!

Bags are tied with pretty ribbon while drying.

Dried Lavender causes quite a stir!
