Antique door from Berbere Imports
I love old architectural elements! They add a layer of texture and interest to whatever they imbellish. I like to use them in unconventional ways. When we bought our home it came with an antique front door that was ten feet tall. The door is from Malaysia and was anything but weather proof. I always knew when it had been a windy day when I’d come home to an entry hall full of leaves!! I was madley in love with this door but I wanted something that actually locked if I chose to lock it, and also had some glass. Our entry was dark and depressing and glass would allow us to see the gorgeous canyon views. The door was replaced with a lovely new door that I instantly had distressed! That problem was solved but what do I do with this amazing antique door? I try not to add to the landfill so I find alternative uses for the things I no longer need.
I had an iron frame made for the door and planted it at the beginning of my “Avenue Garden”. With ficus shrubs on both sides of the door the ocean view beyond is unseen. When the door is opened, I am truly transformed as I walk into another world!
