As a young girl growing up in Southern California, Susan Burger was profoundly influenced by the colors that comprised her environment; the blues and greens of the Pacific, the yellows and reds at sunset and the earth tones emanating from the region’s deserts and mountains. It’s these natural palettes that embody the essence of her vision and interior design work.
Susan’s love for design led her to California State at Long Beach where she studied interior design. This came as no surprise to her four sisters who remember her being more interested in designing and building furniture for her doll house than actually playing with the dolls. While still in college she began her own design firm. For her first project she designed a custom upholstered furniture line for a Laguna Beach based home furnishings outlet.
Susan’s specialty is residential design although she is often called on to lend her talent to corporate projects. Her commissions range from midsize homes to large estates in Beverly Hills and Bel Air to larger properties throughout the state. The fullest representation of work can be seen in her own Malibu home, an 8,000 square foot Tuscan estate that was intended to be the California home of Princess Diana and financier Dodi Fayed. In addition to the sprawling residence, the house includes a seasonal garden, chicken coop and horse paddock. Susan lives from farm to table and anything not found in her herb and vegetable gardens is purchased from local Malibu growers.
Susan and her husband Mark are committed supporters of The Wellness Community, a not for profit organization dedicated to providing free emotional support, education and hope for people with cancer and their loved ones. They were both recently honored for their dedicated support and are the proud parents of three children, Nicole, Natalie and Michael.
I’d love to hear from you!
